Whatever issue people are dealing with, I talk about the value of being in your body, i.e. being present - feeling your emotions and the physical sensations that go along with them and being aware of your thoughts. Engaging in balance training is a very effective way to learn what being in your body feels like. Great information and BTW I love my Slackblock. Balance Is Power is an enlightening and thought-provoking read. It will make you view the world differently! Jim describes how the world we live in today has severely weakened our natural balance - we live in perfectly aligned living/working spaces, are always looking down at our phone screens, wear poorly designed athletic shoes, etc. - something I never thought about or noticed before. Jim's insights and methods have made me realize the potentially life-and-death importance of balance, not just for athletes but for all humans. This book is great not only for anyone wanting to improve athletic performance at any level but also just for anyone wanting to feel stronger, healthier and more in control of their body.
Very good strategies for ideas on improving balance. Get a rope and try it at home and follow the safety instructions, as mentioned throughout the book.
This book is well written - clear and concise. Not overloaded with technical jargon that can be overwhelming. As a woman in my 50s, I had experienced episodes of balance and vertigo issues. Standing, from a sitting position, and turning simultaneously would often cause me to lose balance and stumble. Playing with the dog in the backyard...running and turning simultaneously would cause me to have to sit down and regroup. I assumed that this was part of aging and that I simply had to live with it. I WAS WRONG. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to learn many of the basic techniques outlined in the book from Jim and Janet; and I continue to work with Janet to keep balance techniques a part of my weekly workout routine. This has been life changing for me. Not only do I not have any of the balance issues described above; but my confidence and skills mountain biking and skate skiing have improved a great deal. I think the techniques described in this book would benefit anybody, not just in the athletic realm ; but in the day to day living realm. Anybody who wants to feel younger and stronger. And who doesn't want that ?
As you get older (like me) balance can become a problem. This book gives you exercises to help you improve your balance. Once you start doing the exercises, you will also be building the muscles and muscle memory that will help you regain the balance and agility that you had when you were younger (or less clumsy). In about 2 weeks you will notice a big difference in how you react to steps, uneven ground or jumping from a small height.
This a great book, apart from the obvious promo of his slackline for the gym, which is a great invention, this book will change your life for the better.
This book by Jim Klopman is a very basic training protocol, that is the key to stability & mobility IN LIFE! It's so true- Use it or lose it.
IF you add this to your must do list ( like brushing your teeth), you will not become a fell & cant get up statistic !
Well written and easy to understand book. If you have elders, recommend this book to them. Fractures caused by falling increase as we age; improving balance significantly reduces the risk. The information in this book is eye opening and offers a solution.
